Come Discover the Duke…

I know it’s the holidays but we still on the grind over here, it’s music all day ery day. No days off! It’s like 1 am on xmas right now and I’m over here feelin the Duke, SKEME The DUKE that is… I do my best to bring ya’ll sounds worth listening to and this is another. Quality, lyrics, and creativity is all we blogn’ bout round here. With that being said Sheme the Duke fits that description. Hungry to blow up is what he is and you can hear it in every word that comes out of his mouth.

Skeme the Duke is about to fill your ipod up with some rough around the edge talent. The hunger in his voice is what makes me think he’s the real deal (or it might just be he has a raspy sounding voice). Either way his sound is very hood and his lyrics are what I would call straight to the point… Meaning not a lot of word play but enough to keep you listening and wondering what he is going to say next. You don’t have to rewind any track to decipher his lyrics. He does a great job keeping it what I would call “simply creative”. A lot of these other new cats out here want to use so many big words that they just sound like they’re trying too hard. Not the Duke.

So if you tired of all that cheesy ol’ christmas music and need some newness to listen to, here is a gift from Distinct Sound to you! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Anyways… enjoy, check the track n’ post back. (that means post a comment mofo’s!!!) Holla back next week!

Let It Breath

I Can’t Lose

That’s Good

I Like This Guy!

His name is Terrace Martin and he is about to re-introduce you to some real music. Now this is an experience of chilled vibes, the sound is very “r&b’ish”. If you’re looking for something different that’s not so hard and tough, then this is perfect! Terrace Martin has a very grown and sexy sound. Now don’t get it twisted he is hip hop and you can hear the gangster roots in some of his music. With that said I would describe him as a cocktail of Wale and Raheem DeVaughn mixed into one artist. So if you’re ready to hear some adult music and do what adults do… (if you know what I mean) then you need to load that iPod with some Terrace Martin.

Like I said Terrace Martin is adult music which has adult subject matter and sound to it. His lyrical style is smooth and so west coast. Yes he’s from the West!  Terreac’s lyrics are heavily based around relationships, life, and lust… along with a little reefer smoking and alcoholic beverage drinking. (Hahaha that was funny) This may be why his sound has such a chilled vibe to it. The beats he delivers on have a lot of horns, piano, and just an all around jazz feel to them. It’s something my parents may enjoy but at the same time it’s a sound that attacks the younger crowd also. Just to prove this, I was put on game about Terrace Martin by my 16 year old cousin Mark. (not that his name is important to know but…. whatever) His sound attracts all ages is what I am trying to get across, dang…

So fill up the iPod with some real music… Thought From Detention, Here, My Dear, and Locke High I am positive you won’t be disappointed with any of it. No matter what, let me know what you think (you know what that means) check the track n’ post back. Holla back next week!

U Keep Calling

Some Other Shit

Roll Up

Now That’s Odd…

Have you heard of Odd Future, or better yet Tyler the Creator? Before we get into this, the first order of business, brace yourself for the ride. Odd Future is the group and Tyler the Creator seems to lead the group. My first impression of them was “these niggas are just crazy!!!” but at the same time Odd Future is getting all kinds of attention. So I asked myself, hmmm is Odd Future wasting our time with shit they call music? The answer is simply NO! These guys are hip hop, period. They’re creative, they’re talented, and best of all they know how to make you look turn away in  discuss and then look again. You will soon understand…

When you check the tracks, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! The shock factor of these lyrics I’m rating as a 10… and this rating is coming from someone who has heard and said some F’d up ISH (that’s fucked up shit for those of you who didn’t catch that). Tyler’s latest mixtape BASTARD is a prime example where you’ll hear references to murder, rape, and gay lures. Here also he gives raw emotion in the lyric and somewhat disturbing insight on his thought process… #imjustsayn’. Better yet check out Tyler’s video Yonkers, WARNING: this video will not doubt shock you so be ready, Lol!!!

Even though the group creates these images doesn’t mean that’s what they want to do. It’s ENTERTAINMENT PEOPLE, I only tell you to brace yourself (jokingly) so that you can get over it! Get pass the shock and recognize the talent and creativity. These guys are giving you the stories of today’s youth and how they think, then put it into music. If you want a small understanding of todays teens, I present to you Odd Future. I’m excited to see what’s next for Tyler the Creator and Odd Future so take action check the track n’ post back. Open Yo Ears to Listen not just Hear!!!

If you haven’t heard any conscious rap lately it’s not because it doesn’t exist it’s because you haven’t downloaded any Kendrick Lamar. Now when I say conscious I mean this is the 99%’er, occupy hip hop rap leader right here. REAL TALK!  Lamar fills ear holes with a Chuck D up front type style but the creativity and content is a breath of fresh air…

Section 80, Lamars’ latest mix tape, is 16 tracks of frankly a different type of rapper. THANK YOU GOD!!! Not just his originality but the lyrical content. He is talking about something worth listening to. Section 80’s content is an explanation of the psyche of todays enter city youth to music, basically shut up, listen, and learn!!! If that doesn’t keep the ear buds glued in your ear holes Lamar’s’ delivery and flow will. Even though it’s a very laid back nonchalant sound don’t be fooled because this guy is a smart ass… Lol, he sounds like he’s “that guy” who talks bad about people to their face then makes them lean over to the person next to them and ask, “did he just insult me?”. This clearly shines through in his lyrics and word play.

Alone with the delivery and content the production for the album is flawless and complements Lamar’s sound. If any of that sounds good to you, Section 80 will be one of your fav mix tapes. If it’s not I don’t know what’s wrong with you. smh… So check the track n’ post back. (that means post a comment mofo’s!!!) Holla back next week!
